Kitchen, Laundry & Bathroom, Walkerville
Project Brief
Marcus and Mae recently purchased their very first home together; a beautiful two story townhouse to raise their 2 year old daughter, Eryn, and their expected second child.
They hunted around the housing market for nearly 12 months. Navigating overcrowded opens and fast paced auctions, they finally got their foot in the door to the perfect family home. By perfect, we mean it was theirs, however the kitchen, bathrooms and flooring was far from. Marcus and Mae were well aware that they would need to renovate or update any home they purchased, so they knew that it was important to start engaging with a professional builder early on in their house hunting journey.
ZJ Building was recommended to Marcus by a dental patient of his. From there, Zak met Marcus and Mae on site at a couple of potential properties, providing his expertise on how the home could be customised to better suit their family. Zak and Marcus kept in touch throughout this journey and when the news was announced that they had finally settled on their very first home, no time was wasted in planning the renovations so that all work could be completed before their move in date.
“Right from the start, Zak has been really, really approachable and we found him really, really easy to talk to and bounce ideas off.” – Marcus
The home, built in 2000, hadn’t seemed to be updated since. The bathrooms were outdated, as was the kitchen which lacked storage. The laundry, next to the kitchen, wasn’t being utilised and the flooring throughout the house needed replacing. With these rooms in mind, Zak introduced Marcus and Mae to joinery design specialist, Tania from TK Design. Tania was able to collaborate with both homeowners and ZJ Building to deliver innovative kitchen, bathroom and laundry designs that significantly improved the functionality of the spaces with a fresh, modern look that elevated the entire home.
A large concern for Marcus and Mae was that once construction began, the build time or scope of work would spiral out of control. These worries were managed and put to ease using multiple communication and project managing techniques, such as our online client portal. Through the portal, Marcus and Mae were able to view their live building schedule, knowing exactly what work was taking place in their home and when. They were sent accompanying site notes and diaries with visuals to keep them in the loop with all progress being made.
“He (Zak) was able to make something really technical, easy to understand for someone like us, who aren’t in the construction industry. Similarly, Tim, who we worked very closely with once renovation started, was really helpful. They always went an extra mile to make us feel reassured that things are running on track or being mitigated and managed.” – Marcus
After 14 weeks of construction, whilst also navigating South Australia’s largest to date Covid outbreak, Marcus and Mae were able to move into their very first home as a family, with a brand new kitchen, adjoining laundry, ensuite, additional powder room and flooring that they couldn’t wait to show off to family and friends.
“Renovations can be either a dream or a nightmare. ZJ Building has definitely made our experience a positive one.” – Marcus
