When Alex made the decision to sell his Normanville home and settle full-time at his Henley Beach residence, he knew the house needed some thoughtful changes. The home had good bones and sentimental value, but it wasn’t quite suited for two people to live comfortably together. That’s when Alex began the journey to transform the home into a space that could support the next chapter of his life.
Alex wasn’t looking for a grand overhaul; he wanted a considered extension that gave the home more space, function, and flow. And just like the home itself, the process of finding the right people to help came together naturally.
It started with a recommendation from a trusted family friend who introduced Alex to a draftsperson, Andrew Holliday from AH Drafting and Designs. Andrew then referred Alex to ZJ Building. From there, things clicked into place.“It just went from one to the other very smoothly,” Alex shares. “The whole process has been very easy.”
With ZJ Building taking the lead on construction and coordination, the build moved forward without stress or disruption. Lee, ZJ Building’s Project Manager, ensured things stayed on track and made sure Alex was kept in the loop, without being overwhelmed. “The contact, coordination and working together were marvellous,” Alex said. “I had very little to do and everything was handled smoothly by the team.”
One of the key spaces in the home, the kitchen, was redesigned with the help of Tania [TK Design], an interior and joinery designer who works closely with the ZJ Building on many projects. The result is a practical and beautifully finished space that’s become a new favourite in the house.
