Matt and Amy have lived in Wynn Vale for more than a decade. It is where their daughter Imogen has grown up. It is where their family routines, memories and traditions were built. Moving never felt right. They loved their street, their neighbours, and the feeling of being home.

Over time, the house simply stopped keeping up with them. The layout was tight. Storage was limited. The old lean to had low ceilings, little natural light and had started to fall apart. Entertaining meant squeezing everyone into spaces that were never designed for family gatherings. They wanted more room but not at the cost of losing the place they loved.

They began speaking with builders in the hope of creating a home that matched their lifestyle. What they found instead were mixed opinions, unanswered calls, and promises that never led anywhere. The uncertainty made them nervous about renovating at all. They had heard stories about poor communication and stressful builds. They worried about making the wrong decision.

Everything changed after their first meeting with a professional builder at ZJ Building. Their ideas were sketched clearly on an iPad. For the first time, they could see their vision laid out in front of them. That initial concept barely changed from the final plan. It gave them confidence that they were working with a builder who understood them.

“From the start we felt confident. We knew where things were at, and every question was answered. That made the whole process so much easier.”

The design phase became something the whole family enjoyed. Amy had a clear sense of the style she wanted. Seeing benchtops, tiles, cabinetry and finishes come together made the project feel real and exciting. The process felt structured and calm, not rushed or overwhelming.

During construction, weekly walk throughs and updates from Hayden kept them informed. They always knew what had just been completed and what was planned for the next stage. Even when weather caused delays, momentum was recovered in other areas. The project began in March and finished in October, exactly as planned a year earlier.

“Here we are at the start of November and we have plenty of time to get ready for Christmas. I do not think many builders finish right when they said they would. ZJ did.”

Moving back in was emotional. It still felt like their home, only better. They had more space to relax. More room for Imogen to play. More storage for everyday life. The kitchen that once felt dated and cramped now feels bright, open and calm. There are moments when they walk through and expect to see the old layout, only to be pleasantly surprised again.

The familiar parts of the home blend seamlessly with the new spaces. It feels warm, welcoming and ready for the next chapter of their life together. Being back in the neighbourhood reminded them why they chose this path. They can cook together again. They can entertain properly. They can breathe.

“Coming back into the house has already reminded us why we did this. It feels like our home but better in every way.”

Today, Matt and Amy describe the experience as clear, transparent and supportive. Every step was explained. Every concern was met with guidance. Their renovation has brought new life to the home they never wanted to leave.

They now have a space that reflects who they are. A place that feels familiar yet completely renewed. A home they truly love coming back to.

“ZJ Building was great to work with and we would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about renovating or extending. It has been a really positive experience.”
