Home Addition and Pool, Dernancourt
Project Brief
Brian and Sandra reside in their 1960’s Dernancourt family home along with their two children and elderly cat. With the children heading into their teen years, they found themselves desperately needing more space. The need for an additional toilet and bathroom had become high on their priority list and they wanted to utilise the sizable portion of land that was virtually unused on the southern side of the property.
Brian and Sandra found ZJ Building through a word of mouth referral. They loved that the company was local and knew the area extremely well. After a phone call introduction followed by a site visit, Brian and Sandra began to collaborate with ZJ Building through their planning and design phase with the guidance of Zak’s industry experience and build knowledge.
After several months working together on designs and attaining the approvals required, Zak was able to provide a fixed price quote for their project which resulted in construction kick starting in October 2021.
It wasn’t long into construction when the Covid-19 pandemic proved to challenge the residential construction industry in Adelaide. With high numbers of workers isolating, the project’s schedule was constantly being tweaked to fit in with different trades availability.
Some materials availability and delivery was also impacted due to Covid, such as the bathroom vanity Brian and Sandra had hand picked.
Given these unexpected delays, Brian and Sandra always stayed optimistic, because communication remained clear and frequent throughout this time. They could also view their building schedule changes live on their online client portal.
The project came to a very anticipated practical completion in March 2022, with just enough sunny weather remaining for the kids to give their new swimming pool the tick of approval. The family now have an additional full sized modern bathroom with ample storage in their laundry, a stunning in ground swimming pool with adjoining paved court and finally a newly paved entry way to the home. The addition ties perfectly into the existing roof line, ensuring a seamless transition from tile to sheeted roof.

“Love the new bathroom, it’s fantastic. The pool area is also great and luckily we had some short time to use the pool before the coming winter starts to bite. The concrete basketball area is the first time we’ve had flat usable space on the property – great for the kids for basketball, handball, or in-line skating.”
