Addition - Cumberland Park

Luke and Kathrine, residents of Cumberland Park, approached us at ZJ Building with the exciting task of extending and renovating their home to accommodate their family. They learned about ZJ Building through word of mouth, sparked by a mention on a Facebook page.

Luke and Kathrine initially envisioned a second-story addition. However, we quickly recognised the potential challenges in terms of both design complexity and navigating local council regulations. A kick-off meeting with Mavtect Design confirmed those complexities.

In collaboration with Mavtect, we proposed an alternative solution– a single-story addition to the front of the home. This innovative approach not only addressed the family’s space requirements but also promised to enhance the facade and street appeal to match the rest of the neighbourhood. The design aimed to seamlessly integrate with the heritage character of the area, ensuring a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

The single-story addition not only proved to be a pragmatic solution but also demonstrated cost-effectiveness compared to the initially considered two-story option. Throughout the project, we maintained open communication with Luke and Kathrine, ensuring their vision and
expectations were met at every stage.

Upon completion, Luke and Kathrine found themselves in a transformed home radiating character and charm. The single-story addition not only met their space requirements but also significantly elevated the overall aesthetic of the residence.

The couple expressed their satisfaction and delight with the final outcome, describing it as a “whole new house” seamlessly blending with the heritage character of the neighbourhood.
